Chalk Talk privacy
Chalk Talk is a live whiteboard for seeing, understanding and imagining ideas, run by Micya AI LLP. This page says what it keeps, and why.
Signing in
Students sign in with Google. Chalk Talk receives the account's name, email address and Google account ID, and nothing else from the Google account. These are kept in a signed cookie on the device for 30 days, so the student stays signed in, and are saved with the student's session transcripts.
What is saved
What the student says and what the board draws are saved as words only, never audio, so we can see where Chalk Talk explains well and where it needs to improve. The transcripts are stored privately and are not shared or sold.
Your progress
Chalk Talk keeps a short record for each signed-in student: their class, any syllabus they upload, the topics they have worked on with how well they did, and brief notes on how they learn (strengths, things to work on, likes and dislikes). It is made from the words of the conversation only, never from the voice, and is used to pitch the next lesson. It is kept with the student's email address, so it is the same on every device they sign in on, and nothing of it, or of their lessons, is stored on the device itself. The student sees all of it under Progress, and can take any line off with its ×: the line is deleted, and only a fingerprint of it (its words hashed, not the words) is kept, so that it is not written back. Settings has a button that deletes the whole record.
Chalk Talk counts what each account uses in credits (10 free credits once, then plans), and keeps each account's balance, what it spent each day, and the plans it bought. Payments are made through our third-party payment provider: Chalk Talk never sees card or bank details, only that an order was paid. The Micya AI LLP team can see a list of the accounts that have used it: email address, name and class, the number of questions, and the first and last dates. It does not show what anyone asked.
Feedback
Chalk Talk sometimes asks how it went. Answering is optional, and Skip sends nothing. Feedback that is sent is saved with the account's name and email, so we can reply.
Who handles the conversation
- The voice is streamed to Google (Gemini) to be heard and spoken. Chalk Talk does not store any audio.
- What the student asks is sent to Anthropic (Claude) to work out the answer and the drawing.
- The site is hosted on Vercel.
There are no adverts and no tracking.
Children
Chalk Talk is made for school students. A child under 13 can sign in only with a Google account a parent supervises (Family Link). A parent who wants a child's transcripts deleted, or wants to know what is kept, can write to us.
